The Story Map Shortlist app template has been recently updated using responsive design, providing an optimal viewing experience whether you’re viewing a Shortlist app using a browser, tablet, or phone. Build your Shortlist once, and use it across all devices.

Shortlist is an ideal template for organizing points of interests into tabs that represent themes, like the fun, food, and design themes found in the San Diego Shortlist. Here’s the San Diego Shortlist in a desktop browser:

And here’s the same app as it automatically adjusts to fit the smaller form-factor of a small tablet or phone. Depending on the tablet size, the app adjusts from a multi-column display to a two-column display before adjusting to this minimal display version.

Other improvements

Additional Shortlist improvements and enhancements are as follows:

Improved pop-ups
Pop-ups have been enabled to support displaying photos directly at each location.

Optional details panel
The details panel, used to display additional information for each location, is now optional and is disabled by default. This makes it easier to author Shortlist apps when additional details are not available, or are not desired.

Locate
An optional Locate button can be enabled by Shortlist authors. This option centers the map to the current location, and temporarily displays the location on the map.

Dynamic tab sizing
Tabs automatically resize to fit longer names, and wrap as needed when the app is resized.

Reference features
Point features can now be added to the map that are not included in the tabbed themes. For example, metro stations can be added as points to the map, but are not included as destinations in the tabbed themes.

Updating your Shortlist

Shortlist is a downloadable template that you must host on your own. Download the latest code and update your apps with it to make your Shortlists responsive, and to take advantage of new features.
